Over the past few months, the new “normal” has shifted a lot of us into virtual worlds by means of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoTo Meeting and other platforms. Even if there are times when everyone cannot meet in person, we can still make use of these technologies to creatively celebrate special moments in our lives such as purchasing a new home. If you’re planning to throw a hybrid or virtual house warming party, here are a few easy games you can pull together to make everyone feel as if they are in the same room, celebrating the new beginnings of a special home owner:
The Cell Phone Game
This is a great icebreaker game to get everyone started and acquainted with one another! Print or email the fun list below. Have each guest total up the number of items they have on the list. The guest with the most points wins! For added fun, I recommend having the winner read their “Open Points” list aloud!
Virtual Tour Memory Game
Prerecord a video or take your guests on a virtual tour of the new home owner(s)’ house. Do not tell your guests the virtual tour is part of a game. Pretend as if you are giving them a general tour of the new home 😉 . Once the tour is over, surprise everyone by telling them that this was part of a memory game! Have your guests write down as many things as they can remember in 60 seconds using the template below! The person with the most items wins!
House Warming Scramble
This is a quick and easy game you can play. Ask all of your guests to grab a sheet of paper. Have each person write down the home owner(s) first and last name. Next have each guest write down the new home owner(s)’ address. Give everyone 60 seconds to create as many new words as possible using the letters from the home owner(s)’ first name, last name, and new address. There person with the most words wins!
The Price is Right!
Before the house warming party, have the home owner(s) save their latest receipt from their last grocery store visit. Print and/or email the template below to your virtual guests. Have the home owner(s) read aloud the description of 10 products they purchased on the receipt. Each virtual guest must write down what they believe the price to be. If the home owner has an actual example of the item to show on camera to help guests, that would be great as well. Do not share the price of the item until all of the items have been read aloud. After all of the items from the receipt have been read aloud, the price for each item can be read. After announcing the price of each item, ask your virtual audience who was the closest to the price. The guest with the most number of correct or close guesses wins!
Kitchen BINGO
Print and/or email the BINGO template below to your guests. Have each virtual guest fill in each square with items they believe they will find in your kitchen. After giving your guests a few minutes, have the home owner(s) use their cell phone or laptop and walk over to the kitchen and pick up various items to read to their guests. As each kitchen item is shared, guests can mark off their BINGO box. The first guest to have five items in a row for BINGO wins!
