If you love hosting fun and unique parties for your friends, then you should definitely consider hosting a perfume party! Hosting a perfume party is a unique and delightful way to gather some of your closest friends for an evening of fragrance, creativity, and fun. To make your event truly memorable, I recommend including interactive games for your party guests that tie into the overall fragrance theme. Here are some exciting games we played at our must recent perfume party:

My guests were welcomed with a game as soon as they arrived called the “Guard Your Pearls.” The objective of this game is to watch your words and guard your pearls!

Guard Your Pearls Game Party

Game Rules: Welcome to the ‘Guard Your Pearls’ challenge! Every guest receives a string of pearls at the start of the evening. The game officially kicks off once all guests have arrived. Throughout the evening, if you hear someone say the words ‘smell’ or ‘smells,’ you could take their string of pearls! The person with the most pearls at the end of the night wins a fabulous fragrance prize! So, watch your words and guard your pearls!

Perfume Party Game Idea #2:Sniff & Tell

A great way to introduce your party guests to fragrances is to create a blind smell test experience! For this game, collect 10 scents and a few coffee beans. Follow the game instructions below:

Sniff and tell perfume party setup

Sniff and Tell Setup and Game Rules:

1. Gather the Scents: Select 10 different perfumes or fragrances for the game. Attach a number to each fragrance. Encourage guests to smell these fragrances sometime in the evening before the game begins so they can become familiar with the different perfumes. Choose a mix of both well-known and unique scents to make the experience rewarding, yet challenging. Be sure to also provide coffee beans at the smelling station to act as a neutralizer for players to “reset” their sense of smell between samples.

2. At the start of the game, provide blindfolds or eye masks for each player. Each player should also receive their own scorecard (as seen in the template below). Once you’re ready to begin, each guest must cover their eyes and smell the secret scent that is sprayed on their perfume tester strip by the game host. After each blind smell test, each player may remove their eye mask, and circle number of the scent they believe they just smelled.

3. Repeat and progress through each mystery scent to put your nose to the test with the blind smell showdown. The person who correctly identifies the most scents wins a prize! Let’s see who has the sharpest sense of smell!

Now that we know who has the best nose of the group, let’s play a game to see how well your guests know the market for fragrances! Can you guess the cost of perfumes? Ten perfumes will be showcased, and it’s the job of each contestant to guess their price tags. The player with the closest guesses and the most correct wins a prize. Let’s see who knows their scents and cents best!

The price is right perfume party

Price is Right Perfume Party Setup and Game Rules:

1. Select the Perfumes: Choose 10 different perfumes of varying brands and price points. Record the actual retail price of each perfume (without revealing it to players ahead of time).

2. Present Each Scent: Provide a scorecard or sheet for each player to record their guesses. Introduce each perfume one by one. Allow players to examine the size of the bottle, smell the fragrance, hold each bottle if necessary and write down their guesses.

3. Guess the Price: Players must write down their best guess for the price of each perfume on their scorecards. Once all guesses are recorded, reveal the actual prices of each perfume. For each perfume, determine who guessed closest to the actual price.

4. Points System: Award 1 point for each perfume where a player’s guess is closest to the actual price. If two players are equally close, both earn a point. For price guesses that went over the actual price, players receive zero points for these.

5. Winner Announcement: The player with the most points at the end of the game is declared the winner and receives a prize! If there is a tie at the end of the game, there will be a tiebreaker round with one additional perfume. The player closest to the actual price will be declared the overall winner! Let’s see who knows their scents and cents!

Towards the end of the evening, you can also play a game that I called “Eau de Surprise“, which is a twist on a White Elephant Gift Exchange game. Perfume Parties are always enjoyable when guests can bring and share their favorite scents. This game is also a win-win, because it also means all of your guests will leave with a new take-home perfume bottle. Here’s how to prep and play:

  1. Set a Price Range: Decide on a budget for the fragrances (e.g., $20-$30) so everyone brings a gift of similar value. For our perfume game night, we decided that everyone should bring either a 1 oz fragrance or travel size gift.
  2. Wrap the Gifts: All fragrances should be beautifully wrapped to hide their contents. The more mysterious, the better!
  3. Draw Numbers: When the game commences, all players should draw a number to determine the order in which they’ll play.
Photo of perfume bottles and gifts
  1. The First Player:
    • Player #1 selects a wrapped fragrance and opens it for everyone to see.
  2. The Next Players:
    • Player #2 can either choose a new, wrapped fragrance or “steal” an already opened one from another player.
    • If a player’s gift is stolen, they can select another wrapped gift or steal from someone else (but not immediately steal back the same gift).
  3. Limit on Steals:
    • A single gift can only be stolen twice in total. After that, it’s “frozen” and belongs to the final owner.
  4. Continue the Game:
    • The game continues in numerical order, with each player choosing to either unwrap a new gift or steal one from another guest.
  5. The Final Player Advantage:
    • Once all gifts are opened, the first player gets a chance to swap their gift with anyone else’s (if they choose).

We ran out of time during our game evening, but one more game idea you could pull together for your girls is a game called the “Mixology Contest”. This is a guaranteed good time and allows you to learn which scents your friends enjoy. Here are some simple tips for this game:

  • Set up a DIY perfume bar with essential oils and carrier bases so guests can create their own signature scent.
  • As part of the game, guests create their own unique scents, naming them and describing their signature scent.
  • Vote for the most creative or best-smelling creation and award a prize!
