Spring has finally blossomed this year after someone finally flipped the “on switch” to warm weather! This afternoon the sun decided to stay out longer, accompanied by a nice breeze, so I decided it was time to make an official martini drink to welcome Spring. Springtime flavors should be bright, light and refreshing. So in this recipe, I took a mixture of delicate citrus flavors and combined them with a soft hint of peach.

Quick Tips for Crafting the Perfect Martini

Select Your Liquor

The base of any martini recipe typically starts with gin or vodka. Classic martini recipes usually contain a good quality dry gin. However, depending on the recipe, there is no right or wrong selection. Each of these alcohol options are a personal choice, depending on the flavors you’re trying to achieve. Most gin spirits tend to be bold with hints of juniper, while vodkas are known to be more neutral in flavor.

Shaken or Stirred

All of us are familiar with famous line by James Bond who ordered his martini “shaken, not stirred”. But does this rule apply to all martinis? Well, let’s keep this simple and shake it out . If you are creating a recipe that is mostly alcohol like a classic dry martini (gin and dry vermouth), you stir the mixture. Stirring is preferred and a best practice so you do not “bruise” the liquor. If have a cocktail that contains multiple flavors such as juices that need to blend, you should shake the cocktail so the flavors bond together. If you do not shake the cocktail, one sip could be full of alcohol, while the next could be mostly juice. Just be careful to not over-shake your cocktail, which could cause dilution.

Blood Orange Martini Recipe

The Blood Orange Martini is a simple refreshing cocktail recipe that's sure to be a crowd pleaser. I recommend using Absolute Vodka for this recipe and the brand of Monin I have listed on my blog. Be careful to not add too much Monin so as to not overpower the other flavors of this cocktail. This cocktail garnishes beautifully with an orange, blood orange, or rosemary. Enjoy!
