This recipe was born during quarantine, when our family turned pizza night into a weekly creative challenge. With restaurants closed, we’d take turns reinventing dishes at home. One night, my husband jokingly said, “Let’s make a McDonald’s inspired Big Mac … but in pizza form!” Challenge accepted! After a few experiments, this easy cheeseburger pizza became an instant hit. It’s juicy, cheesy, and full of that irresistible pickle flavor we all secretly love.

Whether you’re hosting a pizza party, craving something indulgent, or just want to spice up your next homemade pizza night, this recipe hits the spot.

  • Combines the best of both worlds: a burger and pizza in one bite!
  • Packed with classic cheeseburger flavor and that signature special sauce. This recipe is inspired by the famous McDonald’s Big Mac burger.
  • Made with simple ingredients you likely already have in your fridge.
  • Perfect for pizza night, game day, or a fun Friday night dinner with the family.

Each bite in this recipe tastes like your favorite cheeseburger, the McDonald’s Big Mac. You get the juicy, savory ground beef, a touch of smoky bacon, and creamy special burger sauce melting together under gooey mozzarella cheese. The pickles add a tangy crunch, the crust turns perfectly golden and crisp, and every slice feels like a comfort food dream come true.

You will need the following ingredients to make this recipe:

  • 12-inch prepared pizza dough: I love using my Homemade Italian Pizza Crust Recipe for a chewy yet crisp base.
  • 8 oz lean ground beef: Choose 90/10 for rich flavor without excess grease.
  • 4 strips crispy bacon: Adds that smoky, salty bite every bacon cheeseburger needs.
  • 1/3 cup Thousand Island dressing: Your “special burger sauce” that doubles as pizza sauce.
  • 2 tsp garlic powder: Adds a subtle savory depth.
  • 2 tsp onion powder: Rounds out the burger flavor beautifully.
  • 1/4 tsp salt: Enhances all the delicious layers.
  • 1/3 cup chopped onions: Use yellow or red onions for extra flavor and texture.
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced dill pickles: Or try butter pickles for a slightly sweet, tangy kick.
  • 1 cup freshly grated mozzarella cheese: The gooey glue that brings it all together.
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese: For extra flavor and a salty finish.
  • 1 tsp olive oil: Brush on the crust for that perfect golden brown shine.
  • Chopped lettuce (optional): Adds a fresh, crisp contrast when serving.

How to Cook Cheeseburger Pizza

Here are the step-by-step instructions you will need to make this addictive pizza recipe:

STEP 1: Prep the Ingredients & Crust – Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C). Chop your onions, slice your dill pickles, and prepare any optional toppings like lettuce. Place your prepared pizza dough on an oiled pizza pan. Pre-bake the dough for about 5-7 minutes to help it crisp up before adding toppings.

STEP 2: Cook the Ground Beef Mixture – While the crust pre-bakes, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add lean ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Stir and cook until the beef is fully browned. Mix in about ¼ cup of Thousand Island dressing and sauté for another minute until everything is coated in the flavorful special sauce. Remove from heat.

STEP 3: Assemble the Pizza – Remove the crust from the oven. Spread the remaining Thousand Island dressing over the base in a thin layer (don’t oversauce). Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, then layer on the ground beef mixture, mozzarella cheese, onions, and bacon.

STEP 4: Bake & Finish – Return the pizza to the oven and bake for about 8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the crust turns golden brown. Remove from the oven, then top with pickle slices and optional chopped lettuce. Slice, serve immediately, and enjoy your flavorful cheeseburger pizza!

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C). Place your prepared pizza dough on a pizza pan and pre-bake it for about 5 minutes to help achieve a crispy crust without a brick oven or pizza stone. While the dough is pre-baking, heat a pan over medium heat and add the lean ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and about ¼ cup of Thousand Island dressing. Sauté until the meat is fully cooked and the flavors have combined, then remove from heat.
  • Remove the pre-baked crust from the oven. Spread the remaining Thousand Island dressing evenly over the crust as the sauce base, keeping the layer thin so it doesn’t overpower the other flavors. Next, sprinkle on the freshly grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor, followed by the ground beef, mozzarella, onions, and bacon.
  • Bake for about 8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown. Remove from the oven and top with sliced pickles and optional lettuce for freshness. Slice, serve immediately, and enjoy!
