My Favorite Tools for Making Soups
Soups are one of the easiest, feel-good meals you can make. All of the cozy soups and stews in this roundup use at least one of the following cooking methods or tools, whether made on the stovetop, in a slow cooker, or sped up with the help of an Instant Pot. These are the tools I reach for most often when soup is on the menu for dinner.
Instant Pot
When I am short on time, my Instant Pot is a lifesaver. When days are long or busy, cooking soups in an Instant Pot allow me to have a comforting homemade meal ready in under an hour, and with very little effort. The one I use is a 7-in-1 version that includes a slow cooker:
Slow Cooker
If I don’t whip out my 7-in-1 Instant Pot to cook meals using this method, then I still like to reach for my old faithful Slow Cooker. She’s been in our family for over 10 years and still works! Here’s the brand I use in my kitchen:
Dutch Oven
My Le Creuset Dutch Oven is my go-to pot for stovetop soups, and you’ll see it featured in many of the recipes on this blog. Dutch ovens are superior to everyday stockpots because they’re made with cast iron, which conducts heat evenly and consistently. This helps maintain steady cooking temperatures while your soup simmers. While this brand can be a bit of an investment, it’s one that truly lasts a lifetime.
Craving More?
I love hearing from all of you through each an every recipe. If you’re a soup lover like my family and I are, do let me know in the comments below which soups you would like to see from my kitchen to your table next! Stay cozy!

The Tortellini and the Chili soups are my favorites in your list. These are the ones I am definitely craving to eat!
Baking those golden cornbread muffins with a touch of honey makes a warm bowl of soup even better. I like having a crisp salad on the side to balance out a heavy stew.
Oh wow, yes please!!! I am loving the variation of soups that you have featured. I think that they would all be great at this time of year as the weather is so horrible. They all seem like they would be fabulous comfort dishes. I especially like the sound of the savoury ham and potato soup – that’s like a hug in a bowl. The chicken and noodle soup sounds like a crowd please and one that my kids would enjoy the most.
I’m so excited to make all of these! I make soup all the time during fall and winter, and I need some new recipes to add to my rotation.
I’m so glad I found these. It’s so cold where I live, and I’ve been putting my soup rotation into overdrive. I need some new ones!
I’m drooling! I love cooking soups during winter. i think I’ll start with the French onion soup, it looks sooo delicious!
I am loving the French Onion Soup recipe. The recipe seems very simple and would be perfect for the cold weather.
