There’s something special about transforming two comfort-food classics: tacos and pizza, into one irresistible dish. This Taco Pizza Recipe is the perfect mash-up of bold Tex Mex flavors and cheesy pizza goodness. I first made this recipe during our family pizza nights during the covid lockdown, and it’s been a Friday night favorite ever since.

Here’s everything you’ll need to bring this recipe to life, with a few of my personal tips:

  • 1 (12-inch) prepared pizza dough – use store-bought dough for convenience or a subscriber favorite: Our 00 flour homemade pizza dough if you prefer a crispy, bakery-style crust.
  • 8 oz ground beef – lean ground beef (90/10) cooks quickly, leaves little grease, and gives the perfect taco flavor. TIP: If you have some chorizo handy, mix this in as well!
  • 1 (1 oz) packet taco seasoning mix – this blend of spices is key to that classic taco taste.
  • ½ tsp Adobo seasoning – adds depth and a touch of smoky saltiness.
  • ⅓ cup taco sauce – use your taco sauce brand with your preferred level of spice for the best flavor.
  • ¼ cup chopped cherry tomatoes – adds freshness, texture, and color after baking.
  • 4 oz mild green chilies (optional) – for a gentle heat and authentic Tex-Mex flair.
  • ½ cup shredded iceberg lettuce – the crisp topping that makes it feel like a real taco.
  • ⅓ cup sour cream + 1 Tbsp taco sauce – whisked together for a creamy drizzle on top.
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese – gives you that gooey pizza pull. Definitely hand shred for the best cheese-pull!
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican-style cheese – a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses for extra richness.

Optional additional toppings: chorizo, black beans, refried beans, black olives, diced green onion, cilantro, or a drizzle of hot sauce.

taco pizza ingredients

This taco pizza is super easy to make! Below you will find my step-by-step instructions:

photo of parbake pizza crust

STEP 1: Preheat your oven – Wash and chop all pizza toppings. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C). Drizzle a little olive oil onto your pizza pan and spread it evenly to grease the surface. This helps the dough crisp up and prevents it from sticking when you slice later. Place your prepared pizza dough on the pan and pre-bake (par-bake) for about 5 minutes, just until it starts to brown. This quick step gives you that deliciously crispy crust at the end of this recipe.

STEP 2: Prepare the taco meat – In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease. As beef is cooking, add taco seasoning and Adobo, plus a splash of water if needed. Stir to coat and cook until done.

STEP 3: Assemble the pizza – Take par-baked pizza dough and spread a thin layer of taco sauce as the base (like pizza sauce). Then top with mozzarella. Afterwards add the cooked taco meat and chopped onions evenly over the dough followed by Mexican-style cheese.

STEP 4: Bake – Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly and the pizza crust is golden brown. While pizza is baking, take a small bowl and mix together 1/3 cup of sour cream and 1 tbsp of taco sauce. This will be your pizza topping.

STEP 5: Add toppings & serve – Once baked, top with chopped lettuce, cherry tomatoes, green chilies, and your sour cream mixture. Add any extra favorite taco toppings you love such as black olives, green onion, cilantro, or refried beans on the side. Cut into slices and enjoy!

If you have leftover pizza (I doubt you will!), allow your pizza to cool completely before storing. Wrap individual slices tightly in plastic wrap or place in an airtight container.

  • Refrigerator: Keeps fresh for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer: Wrap slices in foil, place in a freezer ziplock bag, and freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes until warm and crisp again.

Absolutely! Substitute the ground beef with refried beans or a plant-based taco meat alternative.

It’s mild, but you can easily adjust by adding hot sauce, jalapeños, or spicy taco seasoning.

I love a mix of freshly grated mozzarella, Mexican blend, and Monterey Jack cheeses. They will melt beautifully!

This is such a fun twist on taco night. I love how easy it looks to throw together, especially for busy evenings. Using crescent rolls for the base is genius and makes it feel extra comforting. Can’t wait to try this one!
