Brownies are one of my favorite guilty-pleasure treats, especially when a sweet craving hits. When my husband and I want something sweet but don’t want to commit to an entire cake, brownies are always the perfect go-to.

A few weeks ago, he took some of these brownies to work and shared them with his coworkers. One of his colleagues, Elisa, asked if I had posted the recipe on my blog, and at the time, I hadn’t! Her question inspired me to make another batch after dinner, snap a few photos, and finally share the recipe with her and all of you. I hope you enjoy this rich, fudgy treat as much as we do.

  • Made with real chocolate for a deep, rich flavor that boxed mixes just can’t match.
  • Perfectly fudgy texture with soft centers and just enough structure to slice cleanly.
  • Simple ingredients and straightforward steps, so you can make them anytime a chocolate craving hits.
  • They’re Ideal for sharing! Treat yourself to a casual weeknight treat, a game day party, or pack up a few to send with someone you love.

Unsweetened chocolate – The foundation of the brownies, providing deep, rich chocolate flavor without added sweetness so you can control the balance.

Unsalted butter – Adds richness and moisture while helping create that soft, fudgy texture brownies are known for.

Granulated sugar – Sweetens the brownies and helps create a slightly crackly top while keeping the interior moist.

Eggs – Binds the ingredients together and give the brownies structure while contributing to a dense, fudgy crumb.

Vanilla extract – Enhances and rounds out the chocolate flavor, adding warmth and depth.

All-purpose flour – Provides just enough structure to hold the brownies together without making them cakey.

Salt – Balances the sweetness and intensifies the chocolate flavor for a more complex taste.

Once completely cooled, store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If your kitchen runs warm, you can refrigerate them for up to 5 days—just let them come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.

Absolutely. These brownies freeze very well and will save you from eating too many!

To freeze:

  • Allow brownies to cool completely.
  • Slice them, then wrap each piece tightly in plastic wrap.
  • Place wrapped brownies in a freezer-safe bag or container.

Frozen brownies will keep for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, thaw at room temperature or warm briefly in the microwave for that fresh-from-the-oven feel.

  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup baking milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup baking bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter, unsalted
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease or spray an 8×8 baking dish and set aside.
  • Take a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix together and set aside.
  • Next take a medium saucepan, add butter, sugar, and water. Stir with a wooden spoon over medium heat until it begins to bubble (just under a boil). Turn off heat and add milk chocolate and bittersweet chocolate chips. Whisk together until melted. Add eggs and vanilla extract and continue to whisk together in saucepan until smooth.
  • Once chocolate begins to smooth, steadily add the flour, baking soda, and salt mixture into your saucepan. Continue to whisk batter until all ingredients are completely combined and smooth again. Next, pour brownie batter into prepared baking dish distribute evenly, and sprinkle walnuts on top.
  • Bake brownies for 25-30 minutes until brownies reach the desired level of doneness. Use a toothpick and stick it in the middle of the brownie pan after 25 minutes to see if it comes out clean. If it does, then your brownies are ready! If not, continue to bake for a few minutes more. Once brownies are done baking, remove from oven and allow them to cool before cutting. Enjoy!
