Want to get away, but just don’t have the time or funds to? Life today is so busy, but it’s important to take out time to renew yourself. The best way to do this is by planning a staycation! Below are my 25 tips and ideas to plan one of your own!
– Choose where you’re going to stay – your house, a hotel, or even an AirBnB in your city
– Unplug so you can recharge! Disconnect from social media, work, emails and more so you can
– Checkout your local Groupon to see what deals are out there for your city
– Your staycation is not a time to pull out your to-do-list! Put this away and make time to relax for the next few days
– Kickoff your staycation with an at-home spa day! Pamper yourself with an epsom salt bath, DiY body scrubs, your favorite music, and even light a candle. Take all the time you need! For a DiY lip scrub recipe, checkout my recipe here.
- If you decide to stay in a hotel for your staycation, collect your favorite takeout menus and order room service from your hotel or favorite restaurants in town!
– Play tourist in your own city! If friends or family were to visit you first time, where would you take them? Try these out for yourself!
– Go to the movies! When was the last time you went to a matinee?! Put on some comfy clothes and see a flick you’re interested in
– If you’re not interested in paying for the movies, make your own movie marathon day! Perhaps watch a series such as Star Wars, catch up on your latest shows, discover something new on Netflix, or my person fave – watch a series of older classic movies. They have a certain charm to them!
– If you plan on being in front of the TV for your staycation, skip the news! All too often we hear bad news. Disconnect from the madness in our world for a few days and truly unwind
– Find a park, and have a picnic. Take a few favorites snacks, wine, a blanket, and even your favorite book and relax outside if the weather is nice
– If you’re within driving distance to water, visit the beach or a nearby lake
– You’re never too old for a sleepover in my opinion! Gather a few of your close friends to relax in PJs and plan a fun slumber party to welcome the evening
– Relax and catch up on your reading list!
– Escape to a nature trail, go rafting, fishing, or try any other outdoor activities. Not only are these therapeutic, but a great way to get your exercise in as well
– Visit a museum in your city you’ve never been to
– Visit a local zoo or aquarium. Sometimes they offer free shows or special exhibits
– Look online to see if your city has a local city calendar. Surprisingly you will find a lot of local festivals, concerts, and activities that you may not be aware of
– If you have kids, give each of them a disposable camera and see what moments they come back with. This could turn into a fun art/collage project indoors
– If you receive frequent work emails, enable your Out-of-Office automatic response message so you can truly disconnect from work
– Go to a local farm or farmers market and pick out some fresh produce and more! Later on, use your farm finds to create a new meal!
– Go star gazing or look for amazing new places in your hometown to see a sunset! Make a picnic out of it if you wish
– Chill by an awesome pool! If you don’t have one in your neighborhood, pick a favorite local hotel who will sometimes give you access for a small fee
– If you feel like staying in the comfort of your own home, why not look into at-home-spa services? Google these on your local area and have the spa come to you!
– If you enjoy beer or wine, why not visit local breweries or vineyards near your hometown? Escaping to these will make you feel as if you’re in another country
