Whenever I have time in the morning, I enjoy making a nutrient rich green juice to start my day. Green juices are an excellent way to get vitamins and minerals into our diet, especially if we’re trying to lose weight. If you have the habit of reaching out for store bought juices or soda, have you ever checked the ingredients on the back of the label? They’re full of chemicals and preservatives, wreaking havoc on our bodies long-term.
Many studies have found that the bulk of vitamins in fruits and vegetables are actually in the juice, allowing the body to easily absorb these nutrients. The only downside to juicing is the lack of fiber, but I recommend supplementing with another fiber rich food to ensure you have the proper daily balance of fiber intake.
I stumbled upon this juice recipe after experimenting with a few different fruit and vegetable combinations. I often find that some green juices do not taste that great. However, with the addition of pineapple and apples in this recipe, the right balance of sweetness is pulled through, finishing with a nice “zing” due to the ginger.
TIP: When juicing, I recommend using a slow masticating juicer. Slow masticating juicers grind fruits and vegetables at a slower speed and do not destroy the natural enzymes like high-speed juicers. I also found that slower juicers output more juice, which reduces waste. My juicer pictured above can be found here on Amazon. The glass jars I typically store my juices in can also be found here in Amazon.
Recipe:
Kale Pineapple Ginger Juice
Ingredients
- 1 Green Apple, chopped
- 2 handfuls Kale, chopped
- 4 stalks Celery, chopped
- 8 1 inch cubes Fresh Pineapple, cubed
- 1/2 Cucumber, chopped
- 1 inch Fresh Ginger, peeled
Instructions
- Clean all fruits and vegetables. Chop each for ease of adding to juicer.
- Begin juicing fruits and vegetables by placing each inside of the juicer chute and use a food presser to push them down gently if needed. I like to juice my greens first to ensure all other fruits can push these through the juicer thoroughly.
- After pressing all of your fruits through the juicer, serve over ice, or store in a glass juice container for consumption later. Enjoy!
