Breakfast pizza has always been one of my favorite slow weekend cozy meals to make at home. Growing up, my mom would make it for us as a special treat, layering eggs, sausage, and cheese over warm pizza dough straight from the oven. Over time, I learned how to make breakfast pizza myself, and now it’s one of my favorite breakfast recipes to share when hosting friends for the weekend or craving something savory, hearty, and nostalgic.

  • Swap the meat: Use turkey sausage, chicken sausage, or diced ham instead of pork sausage
  • Change the sauce: Substitute ketchup with traditional pizza sauce for a more classic flavor
  • Switch up the cheese: Try goat cheese, pepper jack, or extra cheddar cheese for a different flavor profile
  • Add more veggies: Incorporate mushrooms, red bell peppers, spinach, or green onions for a veggie-packed breakfast pizza
  • Adjust the eggs: For runny yolks, crack whole eggs directly onto the pizza instead of mixing them
  • Make it spicy: Add red pepper flakes or a drizzle of hot sauce for a little heat

This delicious pizza comes together in four easy steps:

step 1 photo of onions and peppers cooking in a pan

STEP 1: Cook the Meat & Vegetables – Pre-chop onions and peppers and set aside. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon pieces and pork sausage until fully browned. Remove and set aside. In the same skillet, heat olive oil and sauté bell peppers until slightly softened. Add onions and garlic salt, cooking until tender and fragrant. Set aside.

STEP 2: Pre-Bake the Pizza Dough – Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or pizza stone. Stretch your homemade pizza dough into a 12-inch circle, making sure to create a slightly raised crust around the edges (this prevents the eggs from running over). Bake until the edges are lightly golden. This step will make the crust crispy.

STEP 3: Add Sauce & Toppings – Remove the crust from the oven and spread ketchup evenly across the surface. In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, cooked sausage, bacon, seasoned salt, and black pepper. Pour the mixture over the crust. Sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly, then top with sautéed peppers and onions.

STEP 4: Bake the Pizza – Return to the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the eggs are set to your preference and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, slice, and serve warm. Enjoy!

Tips for the Best Breakfast Pizza

  • Create a raised crust edge to keep eggs from spilling over
  • Use a fork to poke holes into the crust before baking to prevent air bubbles
  • Pre-bake your crust to avoid a soggy center
  • Use a pizza stone or pizza peel for a crispier bottom
  • Cook toppings beforehand so your pizza cooks evenly
  • Take care to not add to much sauce to the pizza crust. This will result in a soggy pizza
  • If you prefer runny yolks, crack eggs directly onto the pizza instead of mixing
  • You can optionally add red pepper flakes for spice or fresh herbs for extra flavor

  • Make Ahead:

    • Pre-bake crust ahead of time and assemble when ready
  • Freeze: Wrap slices tightly and freeze for up to 1 month

  • This recipe is easy to customize with toppings like mushrooms, spinach, green onions, or different cheeses.
  • For cleaner slices, let the pizza rest for 2 to 3 minutes before cutting and serving.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best texture.

Using a warm pizza dough instead of those frozen options makes such a difference for a weekend brunch. I usually add extra bacon to mine because that savory crunch is the best part of the morning.
