I fell in love with mojitos during a trip to Old San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2010 with some of my closest friends! During our trip, my friend Josh made reservations for us at the Bacardi Rum Factory where we learned how to make an official mojito the Cuban way! Our guide taught us the delegate balance of mint vs limes and how to properly show honor to the mojito by muddling all of it’s naturally ingredients together!

For years I thought I perfected this drink since our last Bacardi tour, yet my sister proved me wrong! Recently she shared with me her spin on the classic mojito drink by adding green tea to the mixture! Her rendition of this recipe can be found here on her blog! I absolutely fell in love with adding green tea to my mojitos. The green tea enhances the flavor of the mint, and makes it more “airy”. Below is my own remix of this recipe, which is slightly different from her signature mixture. Mh recipe includes sweet and sour mix to enhance the sweetness of this cocktail, and it also brings out the lime flavors! Both versions are amazing so I hope you enjoy!

Green Tea Mojito

This is a fresh and fun spin on the classic mojito recipe! The green tea makes this drink light and airy, while the sweet and sour mix enhance the natural lime flavors within this cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 oz Bacardi Silver Rum
  • 2.5 oz Steeped, Cooled Green Tea
  • .5 oz Simple Syrup
  • .5 oz Sweet & Sour Mix
  • 3 Thinly Sliced Lime Wedges
  • 8-10 Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Splash of Soda Water

Instructions

  • Prepare one green tea bag, let it steep and cool. ( I personally heated up a cup of filtered water in a microwave safe cup for 30 seconds, and added my tea bag afterwards to steep for a few minutes)
  • In a tall glass of choice, add lime, mint, simple syrup, and sweet and sour mix. Muddle lightly around 10 times as to not bruise the mint. (This is not traditional, but I find muddling the mint with syrup & sour mix infuses & distributes the mint oils better throughout the drink.)
  • To your tall glass, add rum, green tea, and ice. Be sure to fill your entire glass with ice so there is not a lot of room left for the soda. Top off with soda water. Stir and serve. Enjoy!
