Sausage Cheese Dip

This sausage cheese dip is a creamy, crowd-pleasing appetizer made with ground beef, Jimmy Dean sausage, Velveeta cheese, and salsa for the perfect balance of rich and savory flavor. Ingredients

  • 16 oz Ground Beef (93%/7%)
  • 16 oz Pork Sausage I use Jimmy Dean (regular breakfast sausage)
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Cajun Seasoning I use Slap Ya Mama seasoning
  • 16 oz Chunky Salsa
  • 24 oz Velveeta Original Cheese

Instructions

  • Cut the Velveeta cheese into 1-inch cubes and set aside. In a medium pot over medium heat, begin to brown the pork sausage. It does not need to be fully cooked yet, allow some of the fat to render for flavor.
  • Add the ground beef to the pot along with the onion powder, garlic powder, and Cajun seasoning. Continue cooking over medium heat, breaking the meat and sausage into crumbles, until fully cooked through. Carefully drain off any excess grease.
  • Return the pot to medium-low heat with the cooked meat and add the cubed Velveeta cheese and jar of chunky salsa. Stir frequently until the cheese is completely melted and the dip is smooth and fully combined.
  • Transfer the dip to a slow cooker or warming dish to keep warm for serving. Serve immediately with tortilla chips. Enjoy!

Notes

Variations & Substitutions
  • Spicy sausage: Use spicy breakfast sausage or Italian sausage for extra heat
  • Green chiles: Stir in a small can of green chiles or green chilies for added flavor
  • Beef Only: Skip the breakfast sausage and and use all ground beef instead
  • Extra creamy: Add a splash of milk if the dip thickens too much
