This creamy coffee smoothie comes together with wholesome, nourishing ingredients:

  • Black coffee – Adds bold coffee flavor (I actually use cold coffee or leftover coffee for these smoothies)
  • Unsweetened almond milk – A light dairy alternative that keeps it smooth
  • Frozen banana – Provides natural sweetness and a creamy consistency
  • Cocoa powder – Adds a subtle chocolate flavor that pairs perfectly with coffee. In my opinon, cocoa enhances the coffee flavor
  • Almond butter – Adds healthy fats and richness
  • Vanilla yogurt – Enhances creaminess and adds protein
  • Vanilla protein powder – Boosts protein for a filling breakfast smoothie

Coffee Smoothie Substitutions

  • Swap almond butter for peanut butter for a richer flavor
  • Use cold brew coffee instead of brewed coffee for a smoother taste
  • Replace almond milk with coconut milk or regular milk
  • Use chocolate protein powder for a mocha-style smoothie
  • Add a drizzle of maple syrup if you prefer extra sweetness
  • Use decaf coffee if you want the flavor without the caffeine

  • If you have some on hand, I recommend using a frozen banana for a creamy texture, and you can avoid using ice
  • If you’re planning to use freshly brewed coffee, let your coffee cool before blending to avoid melting the smoothie
  • Start blending on low, then increase speed for a smooth consistency
  • Use a high-speed blender for the creamiest results
  • Add ice cubes if you prefer a thicker, frostier smoothie

This coffee smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store it in an airtight container like a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. If you want to prep ahead, you can freeze portions of this smoothie in an ice cube tray, then blend again when ready to enjoy!

Bananas are the best choice because they add natural sweetness and create a creamy texture that pairs perfectly with coffee.

Almond milk, coconut milk, or regular milk all work well. It depends on your preference and whether you want a dairy alternative.

Absolutely. Cold brew coffee is a great option because it has a smoother, less acidic flavor.

You can add maple syrup, honey, or even a Medjool date for extra natural sweetness.
