Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 Ripe Avocados
  • ½ Small Red Onion diced, (about ⅓ cup)
  • 1-2 Roma Tomatoes pitted & diced, (about ½ cup)
  • 1 Jalapeño or Serrano pepper, finely diced (seeds removed)
  • 2 tbsp Cilantro chopped
  • 1 Lime Juiced
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin
  • ½ tsp Garlic Salt
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Ground Red Pepper

Instructions

  • Wash and finely chop the red onion, tomatoes, a jalapeño or serrano pepper, and cilantro. Set these ingredients aside.
  • Cut and remove the avocado flesh from the shell. Save one seed and set it aside. Place the avocados in a large mixing bowl or molcajete.
  • Season avocados with garlic salt, cumin, lime juice, salt, and ground red pepper. Then mash the avocados to your desired consistency (chunky or smooth). Taste the avocado mixture to ensure the desired flavors are there. This is the best way to build flavor from the start.
  • Gently fold in the chopped veggies. Stir, taste, and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve immediately with tortilla chips. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use perfectly ripe avocados for the best texture. They should feel slightly soft when gently pressed, not firm or overly mushy.
  • Always season the avocado first before adding other ingredients. This helps build deeper, more balanced flavor throughout the guacamole.
  • Adjust the heat to your preference by adding more or less jalapeño or serrano pepper. For extra spice, leave a few seeds in.
  • If you prefer a chunkier guacamole, mash the avocados lightly and fold the ingredients gently. For a smoother texture, mash more thoroughly before mixing.
  • Fresh lime juice is key for both flavor and color. It brightens the guacamole and helps slow browning.
  • For the best taste, serve immediately. This recipe is at its peak when freshly made.
  • To store leftovers, place guacamole in an airtight container, add the avocado pit, and press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to help keep it from browning.
  • If making ahead, keep it chilled and give it a quick stir before serving to refresh the texture.
