Planning your next cookout doesn’t have to be stressful. A little preparation goes a long way toward creating a relaxed gathering where you can actually enjoy time with your guests. Below you will find some of my favorite hosting tips for your next party:
Keep Hand Wipes Handy: Guests always appreciate having hand sanitizer and hand wipes nearby for easy clean-up.
Choose recipes you can make ahead: Many of the best cookout sides, including pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and cucumber salad, taste even better the next day after the flavors have had time to develop.
Offer a variety of side dishes: Balance rich BBQ chicken and grilled meats with fresh salads, fruit salad, and veggie-packed sides so there’s something for everyone.
Keep the menu simple: Instead of making everything from scratch on the day of your backyard BBQ, choose a few standout main dishes and complement them with easy cookout recipes that can be prepared ahead of time.
Set up a self-serve drink station: Fill coolers with water, lemonade, and cocktails so guests can help themselves while you’re tending the grill. Our friends love it when we do a DIY Kentucky Mule station when the mix is pre-made and you can add your own liquor.
Serve buffet-style: Large platters and a small serving bowl for toppings, garnishes, and sauces make it easy for guests to build their own plates.
Don’t forget dessert: A scoop of vanilla ice cream, homemade ice cream, or an easy fruit dessert such as sour patch grapes is always the perfect ending to a summer meal.
Have extra BBQ sauce available: Whether you’re serving grilled chicken, ribs, burgers, or pork chops, guests always appreciate having extra barbecue sauce nearby.
Use fresh herbs and simple ingredients: Fresh basil, red onion, olive oil, and seasonal produce are easy ways to elevate even the simplest side dishes.
